                                                                     INDOOR GAMES Indoor games are those games which are played in houses, in schools, in temples etc. PARAMAPADHAM Paramapadham (Thayam) is Snakes and Ladders in English; it was created in ancient India before 1892. It is also known as Parama Pada Sopanam means Steps to the Highest Place (where Parama Pada means highest place and Sopanam means steps). Paramapadham was inspired by religion; and was believed to be symbolic of a man's attempt to reach God. The ladders represent virtues and the snakes represent vices. The snakes carry names linking them to stories from our epics.                                                                       OUTDOOR GAMES Outdoor games are those which are played on ground, outside house, in garden or in open space. 1. GILLI DANDA Gilli Danda is an amateur sport played in the rural areas and small towns all over Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as Cambodia, Turkey, South Africa and Italy. The game is played with two sticks: a large one called a danda, which is used to hit a smaller one, the gilli. Gilli Danda is an ancient sport of India, possibly with origins over 2500 years ago. It is believed to be the origin of Western games such as cricket, baseball and softball. To play the game, one team uses the "danda" to hit one of the tapered ends of the "gilli" with force. This causes the "gilli" to flip through the air. While the "gilli" is airborne, the opposing team's hitter attempts to smack it like one would as if playing cricket. The
                                                               INTRODUCTION Looking at the modern children, one striking difference between the childhood that the previous generation had and the one that this generation is having is the lack of Indian or native games. In year (i.e., 1980s and before) the people used to play a variety of indoor and outdoor games that were the games of this soil. Nowadays almost all kids play games like cricket, tennis and football. Nobody is playing outdoor games like  Gilli Danda, Lagori, Kabaddi, Goli or the indoor games like the Paramapadham, pallanguzhi  or dhaayakattam. These games have a rich culture and heritage value and were tools of passing on some ancestral knowledge or the other. They also sharpened our observational and math skills unlike the hit and run games of the west that are uni-dimensional and strengthen only hand eye coordination.  Traditional Games were not just games, they were designed in such a way that one can develop
